Vintage Home Decor: Sourcing wooden bowls
To decorate your home, whether it be new or a one off item, purchasing items from various resources brings character to your home. On my most recent sourcing trip I have been on the look out for large wooden bowls.
The reason being is that this category works really well as a striking centrepiece and can have an authentic appearance. Bowls can be accessorised to suit your mood or you can keep it simple and allow them to act as a standalone object.
Often, wood arrives in various textures and includes attractive imperfections. I recommend displaying your pieces on a coffee or dining table to achieve a contemporary look.

Large Indian Wooden Parat Bowl
Whilst sourcing, I left with a Large Wooden Indian Parat Bowl. This piece stood out to me in particular as the wood almost has a bronze like aesthetic. The circular shape is relatively rugged which avoids objects appearing mass produced. Formerly used to kneed dough, it's heavyweight and adds personality to your space.
The way I have styled the bowl is by adding branches to compliment the natural material of the item. Conveniently, branches can complete a winter look or a summer look depending on the time of year.
Another favourite style of mine are Swedish root bowls. What I admire most about this type is that each piece is unique therefore no bowl is a perfect circle. Arriving in a variety of sizes, these bowls can also be stacked. They appear rustic yet the overall feel of the object is smooth. Dating from 1800's, Swedish root bowls usually sit at a higher price point.
Lighter in appearance, French wooden bowls are both accessible and versatile. This style is interchangeable and can also be a decorative way to store household items.
Whilst sourcing, all items are thoroughly checked for signs woodworm and damp to ensure that all objects can fully function. If there are any items that you'd like to see more of, do reach out as we love hearing your thoughts.
